Lauryn and Michael LOVE lifting weights. They see their trainer multiple times per week and keep it a number 1 priority in their life, and in their calendars. In fact, they ensure that every else is scheduled around their fitness. Heavy lifting and high protein diets have changed their lives, and their bodies.

You may not know that they both love Pilates too. They take classes at a studio together once a week, and Lauryn still uses online platforms like Pilates By Bryony when she’s at home or traveling.

HOT TIP: try the 20 minute sideline series, it’s Lauryn’s go-to.

The reason they both love Classical Pilates is because it has a ton of benefits. For Michael it helps with posture and is a restorative practice for his body after lifting heavy all week. And Lauryn especially loves it for the flexibility, posture and clarity benefits.

SO WHAT IS CLASSICAL PILATES?

Classical Pilates refers to the original system of Pilates exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It’s a method of physical fitness that emphasizes controlled movements, proper alignment, breathing, and core strength.

The “classical” aspect means that the exercises and sequences follow the exact framework and principles Joseph Pilates outlined, with minimal modifications. Which is why we love Bryony Deery’s platform (you can hear more about her journey and how Pilates changed her life after a horrific car accident on The HIM & HER Show.)

Anyway, the difference between modern Pilates and Classical Pilates lays in the modifications to movements, bringing in different equipment and instructors putting their own spin on things. Both are incredible so we say, do the one you like best.

Lauryn likes to use the reformer and favors Classical because it always focuses on the core, coordinating breath with movement, posture alignment, slow precise movements opposed to reps, and a smooth flow which makes this a cortisol-lowering workout.
