The way I sleep has completely changed. I used to pile pillows and blankets up because I like to feel fully cocooned when I sleep. I always sleep soundly when I'm wrapped in a top of blankets as tight as a mummy. I had heard about weighted blankets, but I never paid attention because I didn't associate weight with comfort. But I realized something was going on as I kept adding blankets to the bed and looking for heavier ones because I couldn't seem to get comfortable enough. I really wish I could have just tried a weighted blanket sooner.
I can't tell you what a difference it's made. There's only one blanket on my bed right now. That's insane, but there only needs to be one. It doesn't feel like heavy weight on my body; it feels like a protective, warm hug. I instantly fall asleep now and stay asleep. It feels wonderful on my back most of all. I tuck the blanket all around my body, and I love that as this blanket drapes over my body, the weight doesn't transfer or move because it's hanging. Does that make sense? Each square has its own weight where that square is on my body. I feel its weight. When I drape the blanket over my back, even though the blanket is hanging off my side, my whole back feels the weight of the blanket. I love my new cocoon. I will never sleep without one again. The only drawback is the blanket is hot. I wake up warm and find I'm pushing part of the blanket off my body. Still, I have not yet woken up covered in sweat, though.
As for the quality, it seems to be a good quality blanket. I do worry a bit that the entire blanket is single-stitched. Each square holds its own beads, which is the entire makeup of the blanket, and because each square is so important, it worries me that their barriers are a simple single-stitched thread. Other than my silly worries, the blanket seems to be made really well. I love that there are 3 loops on each side of the blanket that I can tie into a cover, and the stitching around the loops is reinforced. I'll update in a few months to let y'all know how the blankets and loops are doing. If the stitching is bad, that should make itself known quickly, I'd wager.
Because I bought a 90×90 cover, this poor blanket was swimming inside that thing and was pushing, pulling, and twisting inside that cover for days. When I finally took that cover off, the only thing I noticed were these little white fibers pushing out of the blanket. I don't know what those are, but they pull right out. I've added a picture. The single stitching I'm so worried about all looked fine. I dislike a great deal that this is hand wash only, but of course, it makes sense. Given that, however, it really should come with its own custom cover. The new cover I got for it is much better, and the blanket doesn't seem to swim inside this correctly sized cover as it did with the other. Overall, I'm happy with it for the price. These blankets have been so expensive, so I feel like this is a fair price for the quality of the blanket.
